Stats From Post 2 For December 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of December 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 25 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,877 Citations
  • Issued 664 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 117 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 8 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 516 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 82 Crashes
  • Assisted 127 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 887 Calls For Service
  • Opened 57 Criminal Cases
  • Made 551 Criminal Arrests

**There were three (3) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three (3) lives reported in the Post 2 District in December 2009. Fatality crashes occurred in Christian, Hopkins, and Muhlenberg Counties. Two (2) victims were wearing seat belts and one (1) victim is unknown if a restraint was used.

Through December 31, 2009, thirty-seven (37) people have been killed in thirty-five (35) crashes in the Post 2 District. Ten (10) victims were not wearing seat belts, fifteen (15) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, four (4) victims were not wearing a helmet, one (1) victim was wearing a helmet, five (5) victims were pedestrians, and one (1) was not known if the victim was using a restraint. Eight (8) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through December 31, 2008, thirty-six (36) people had been killed in thirty-one (31) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
