Injury collision on US 45 N in Graves County

Date of News Release: 11/10/2010

(Hickory, Ky.) -- Ibrahim Velic was traveling northbound on US 45 N approaching the intersection of KY 1241 in the Folsomdale community. Landon B. Howard had crossed the southbound lane of US 45 and was stopped in the median crossover waiting to cross the northbound lane. Mr. Howard observed Mr. Velic, but was unaware that his semi was pulling a trailer. As a result, Mr. Howard pulled across the northbound lane and collided with Mr. Velic's trailer. Mr. Velic continued northbound and lost control causing his vehicle to overturn. Subsequently, the 56,000 pound load of angle iron dislodged from Mr. Velic's semi-trailer. Mr. Velic was transported by Mayfield-Graves Co. EMS to Lourdes Hospital with minor injuries. Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky Department of Transportation had to close the northbound portion of US 45 from KY 1241 in Folsomdale to the intersection of US 45 and KY 1241 at the Graves County-McCracken County line. This portion of the roadway remained closed from the time of the collision until approximately 1:30 AM on the morning of November 11, 2010. Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Graves County Sheriffs Office and West Viola Fire Department. The investigation continues by Tpr. Raymond Chambers.
