KSP Investigation Bridge Jumper in Livingston County

Date of News Release: 07/07/2010

(Gilbertville, Ky.) -- A Princeton man was airlifted to a Nashville Hospital Wednesday after an apparent suicide attempt. Kentucky State Police received a call around 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon of a man who had jumped off of the US 62 Tennessee River Bridge. The bridge connects Livingston and Marshall County at the north end of Kentucky Lake. Upon arrival of emergency personnel, it was determined that the 51-year-old man had intentionally attempted to take his own life by jumping from the bridge in an attempt to hang himself. Boaters on the Tennessee River rescued the man within minutes of him falling. A household electrical cord was found around the man's neck at the time of his rescue. The man was airlifted by PHI Air Medical to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for injuries sustained from the fall. Responding agencies included Livingston County EMS, Burna Fire Department, Grand Lakes Fire Department, Smithland Fire Department, and Livingston County Rescue Squad. Kentucky State Police is conducting a non-criminal investigation.
