Two Injured in a Motorcycle Collision in Graves County

(Mayfield, KY) -- Trooper Richard Wright Jr. was responding to an alarm activation complaint in Graves County when he observed a motorcycle traveling southbound on KY 121 at a high rate of speed. Trooper Wright turned on the motorcycle and activated his emergency equipment. The operator of the motorcycle accelerated at a high rate of speed and turned North on KY 940. Before Trooper Wright could catch up with the motorcycle, Graves County Deputy Steve Halsell intercepted. The motorcycle continued northbound on KY 940 and continued to disregard Deputy Halsell's emergency equipment. The motorcycle continued North on KY 121 toward Mayfield. The operator turned South on US 45 and continued to travel at a high rate of speed. The operator attempted to turn onto Houseman Street when he lost control of the motorcycle and overturned. Both the operator and juvenile passenger were transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center where they were treated and release for minor injuries. The operator of the motorcycle William Newton, 21 of Hickory was arrested and lodged in the Graves County Jail. Mr. Newton was charged by Trooper Wright with: fleeing or evading police officer 1st motor vehicle, fleeing or evading police officer 2nd on foot, operating motor vehicle under influence 1st aggravated, speeding 26 mph or greater, and numerous other traffic offenses. Trooper Wright was assisted by the Graves County Sheriff's Department, and Mayfield Graves County E.M.S.
