Area Children Attend Trooper Island Camp
Date of News Release: 06/15/2010
(Hickory, Ky.) -- During the week of June 7th through June 11th, a total of sixty-four (64) boys and girls from the Mayfield and Madisonville State Police post districts spent a week at the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Camp. Before leaving for the island, the campers were treated to a cookout at the Madisonville Post courtesy of Richard Gordon of Madisonville, KY.
During the week on the island, campers participated in many activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Campers also learned about good citizenship, hygiene, and leadership. Trooper Island is located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Cumberland and Clinton County line. Established in 1965, the free, summer camp is for underprivileged boys and girls ages 10 to 12 that may not have a chance to attend a summer camp. Each year approximately 700 campers attend the camp from across the state.
Trooper Island is a non-profit organization, which operates solely on private and business donations. If you would like to make a donation to Trooper Island, you may contact your local Kentucky State Police Post. Contributions are tax-deductible. Currently, the Kentucky State Police is raffling a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro (1LT Coupe) (Charitable Gaming #0000633) with proceeds going to Trooper Island. Tickets may be purchased from any Kentucky State Police Post.
The annual Post 1 Trooper Island Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday September 16, 2010 at Lake Barkley State Park in Cadiz, KY. For more information, you may contact Trooper Dean Patterson at 270-856-3721 or email at dean.patterson@ky.gov.
