Date of News Release: 06/01/2010

Steve Watson, click to enlarge(Mayfield, Ky.) -- A local golf club employee was arrested last week after allegedly taking money from members. Steve Watson, 38 of Mayfield, was arrested May 26th after a state police investigation determined that he had been taking portions of country club dues for South Highland Country Club near Mayfield. In February, Detective John Sims with the Kentucky State Police began investigating allegations that Watson was pocketing a percentage of country club dues. Members who had paid dues for the year began receiving letters stating that they still owed. Several members contacted the owner of South Highland Country Club, Bob Turner, who subsequently notified KSP. Investigators believe that Watson took as much as $2,500 from country club members. After months of investigation into the allegations, a warrant was obtained for Steve Watson for the charge of theft by unlawful taking over $500. On Wednesday, May 26th, Steve Watson was arrested and lodged in the Graves County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by Detective John Sims with the Kentucky State Police.
