One injured in a DUI collision on I-24

(Mayfield, Ky.) -- Sergeant Williams pulled in to assist a motorist that was parked on the westbound shoulder of Interstate 24 near exit 40. Before Sergeant Williams could approach the vehicle, the driver sped away crossing both westbound lanes, crossing the median and proceeded eastbound on Interstate 24. After turning eastbound, the vehicle exited the eastbound lanes onto the shoulder and travelled down an embankment into a wooded area striking the trees where the vehicle came to final rest. The driver is identified as Chad Watson and was transported to the Caldwell County Hospital where he was treated and released. Sergeant Williams charged Mr. Watson with DUI 1st aggravated circumstances, failure to wear seatbelt, failure to notify DOT of address change, and improper turning. Mr. Watson was lodged in the Caldwell County Jail. Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Trooper Clinkenbeard, Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Eddyville Police Department, and Lyon County EMS.
