A Bardwell Woman Arrested on Several Theft Charges

(Bardwell, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police arrested Carolyn Reid of Bardwell, KY on April 16, 2010 on eight counts of Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property Over $300, one count of Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $500, and Knowingly Exploiting an Adult Over $300. The investigation was conducted by Kentucky State Police Detectives Brett Miller and Jerry Jones. The detective's received the complaint in March of 2010 and after a one month investigation Det. Miller determined that Mrs. Reid had abused a power of attorney and taken approximately $300,000 from a family member who had entrusted her to oversee his finances. Detective Jones was able to determine that Mrs. Reid had previously been the Chapter representative for the Carlisle County Red Cross until their charter was revoked in 1998. Mrs. Reid, however, continued to accept monies, on behalf of the Carlisle County Red Cross from 1998 to 2009. Mrs. Reid took in a total of approximately $11, 000 for the Carlisle County Red Cross, which did not exist at the time she accepted the money. The Detective's presented their cases to the Carlisle County Grand Jury on April 15, 2010 and indictments were returned against Carolyn Reid the same day. The investigation is still ongoing by Kentucky State Police Detective's.
