Update to the Felony Arrests in Murray, Ky
Date of News Release: 01/20/2010
(Mayfield, Ky.) -- On Wednesday January 20, 2010 two defendants, David L. Morris (29) and Robert C. Cates (33) appeared in Calloway County District Court for preliminary hearings. Mr. Cates' case was waived to the Grand Jury while Mr. Morris' case was continued until January 27, 2010 at 9:30 am.
Mr. Morris and Mr. Cates were arrested by Kentucky State Police after detectives from the McCracken County Sheriff's Department gathered information of suspected child pornography being in the Mr. Morris' and Mr. Cates' home in Calloway County on Pottertown Road. McCracken County Sheriff's Detectives contacted the Kentucky State Police and as investigators looked into the information, it led to Mr. Morris and Mr. Cates soliciting for what they believed to be an eleven (11) year old boy to come to their home on Pottertown Road to engage in sexual acts.
The teamwork of investigation between the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police and Calloway County Sheriff's Department led to the execution of a search warrant at the Pottertown Road residence in Calloway County. Detectives seized a number of media items from this residence, which are being sent to the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crimes Branch for further examination. Mr. Morris and Mr. Cates were taken into custody that night and lodged in the Calloway County Jail on an initial charge of one (1) count of Possession of Mater Portraying a Minor in a Sexual Performance. This charge is a class D felony, punishable by 1-5 years in prison, if convicted. Additional charges against both defendants are pending further investigation and laboratory examinations. The next session of the Calloway County Grand Jury is scheduled for February 18th, 2010.
The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police, and state police request anyone who has knowledge of juveniles having contact with these two defendants, to please contact the KSP at (270) 856-3721 or 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state).
