Winter Weather Driving Advisory
Date of News Release: 01/06/2010
(Hickory, KY) - Due to the anticipated winter weather system moving through the area, Kentucky State Police are urging motorist to take extreme precautions when traveling. If you must travel during these hazardous conditions, please remember to keep a full tank of fuel in your vehicle in the event you get stranded. Also keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as blankets, flashlights, and high energy snacks. Always make sure the tail pipe of your vehicle is clear of snow or debris when running your car for warmth.
For those citizens who do not have to travel during inclement weather, it is always recommended to stay indoors until travel conditions have improved. It is anticipated that a winter weather system will move into the area overnight and remain in the area until mid-day on Thursday. Temperatures behind the front are expected to drop near zero degrees with a wind chill well below zero. Winds near 30 mph are expected to cause white-out conditions at times.
If you are traveling and find yourself stranded due to hazardous driving conditions, you can contact your local police or sheriff's department or the Kentucky State Police. KSP can be reached toll free by calling 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state).
