Toddler Found Walking Down Road Unsupervised

Date of News Release: 09/04/2010

(Henderson, Ky.) -- Post 16 Henderson was notified of a 2 year old boy that was walking unattended on Markham Road in Union County. The caller had lost sight of the child. Trooper Aaron Pryor responded to the scene to help search for the missing child. Upon arrival, Trooper Pryor met with another passerby who saw the toddler and stopped to retrieve him. The little boy was taken to Sturgis Fire Department and looked at by an EMT. The EMT advised there were no physical problems with him. The Grandmother of the child showed up to the Fire Department after being advised there was a small child there. Further investigation revealed the child had been dropped off at the Aunt/babysitter's, Susan Shepherd's house, that morning. The child had been located approximately 3/4ths of a mile from the Aunt's residence. Units and Social Services went to the Aunt's house on KY923 to speak to Susan Shepherd, who had been watching the child. Further investigation revealed Miss Shepherd was unaware the child had been missing for over an hour. Social Services returned the child to the Grandparents who have full custody. Susan Shepherd was arrested for Wanton Endangerment 1st and Endangering Welfare of a Minor. She is lodged at the Union County Detention Center.
