(Henderson, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, July 7, 2010, Kentucky State Police detectives, investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, Greene County Sheriff detectives and investigators with the District Attorney General's Office served 49 year old Peggy J. Norton of Greeneville, TN with two counts of Robbery 1st degree and one count of Terroristic Threatening 1st degree.
While executing the search warrant, Ms. Norton who was hiding in a bedroom closet, brandished a handgun at investigators as they entered the closet. This lead to a stand-off with the Greene County (TN) Sheriff's SWAT Unit. After two hours, Ms. Norton surrendered without incident where she was arrested.
Ms. Norton was lodged with no bond and will appear Friday Morning in Greene County Court for an extradition hearing.
The Kentucky State Police's investigation determined Ms. Norton robbed the Citizen's Bank in Hartford, KY on 6-21-2007. On 7-13-2007, Ms. Norton then robbed the Citizen's Bank in Beaver Dam by threatening bank employees with a bomb. It was later determined the ticking package was a fake bomb.
