One Arrested After Traffic Collision on US 60

Date of News Release: 04/16/2010

(Henderson, Ky.) -- Steven Harkey was traveling westbound on US 60, in the limits of Spottsville, KY. Mr. Harkey attempted to cross the Spottsville Bridge with his 2006 International Semi. During the improper crossing, Mr. Harkey struck the crash/safety barrier, which significantly damaged its function. While the barriers were destroyed, the semi sustained moderate damage. Mr. Harkey or any workers were not injured; however, Mr. Harkey was arrested and taken to the Henderson County Detention Center. He was charged with two counts of Wanton Endangerment-second degree; Careless Driving; Disregarding a Traffic Control Device and Over Dimensional on a Non-Designated Highway. Mr. Harkey's semi (which was pulling a 53 foot flat bed trailer) was towed by Hazelwood's Towing of Henderson.

Information last received were workers stopped construction due to the destroyed safety barriers. The barriers will have to be replaced and motorists can expect periodic shutdowns.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer's have issued numerous citations during the past two days. On April 15, 2010, officer's made 17 size contacts for semi's crossing or attempting to cross the restricted bridge. This date, officers made 13 size contacts with 24 citations issued.
