Possible Scam Alert

Date of News Release: 03/22/2010

(Henderson, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Henderson has received information concerning an unknown group of laborers requesting to do general maintenance around local properties. A concerned citizen stated she was approached at her residence in south-east Daviess County by two to three men in a black Chevrolet truck bearing an out-of-state registration. These men wanted to paint her barn; however, the citizen turned them away and they left the property.

It's unknown if these men were there for the legitimate purpose of work or to scam a potential customer.

Our stand is to notify the citizenry to be vigilant and not fall victim to any seasonal work scams. Be mindful that many reputable contractors will not request payment up front until the work is near completion or complete. Asking for references and then following up on these past references are an important way of determining a contractor's future workmanship. Keep in mind that even though people may seem to be there to request work they might actually be there canvassing your property for items to steal on a later date.
