Two Former Basketball Coaches Charged with Sodomy

(Henderson, Ky.) -- On Monday, March 15, 2010, the Kentucky State Police charged 43 year old Terry W. Nofsinger of Greenville with five counts of Sodomy 1st; Sexual Abuse 1st (nine counts); Unlawful Transaction with a Minor – Sexual Act (14 counts) and Unlawful Transaction with a Minor – Sexual Act (Complicity). Furthermore, KSP Detectives charged 32 year old Nathan E. Phelps of Hartford with five counts of Unlawful Transaction with a Minor – Sexual Act.

Both were indicted by an Ohio County Grand Jury on March 11, 2010. Phelps was charged at 1:00 p.m. this date (03/15/2010) and Nofsinger was charged at 4:00 p.m. Both were released after they secured bond at the Ohio County Detention Center in Hartford.

The Kentucky State Police launched an investigation in September of 2009 after receiving a complaint of sexual misconduct. The investigation revealed that both accused allegedly had sexual relations with 15 and 16 year old females.

These allegations occurred between June of 2000 through May of 2003 when Nofsinger and Phelps were employed by the Ohio County High School as basketball coaches.

The investigation is on-going.
