Attempted Murder Investigation and Arrest

(Henderson, Ky.) -- On Thursday, February 25, 2010, the Kentucky State Police charged 64 year old Wilfred Gene Rummage of Whitesville with one count of Attempted Murder. On Thursday, February 11, 2010, approximately 1300 hours (1 p.m.) Kentucky State Police Troopers and Daviess County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the Rummage home located on Herbert Road in Whitesville reference to a 911 call. Truc Rummage (Gene Rummage's wife) reported to police of an altercation between the two. A responding trooper arrived and confronted Mr. Rummage, who was standing in the driveway of their home. Rummage, who was armed with a handgun, refused the trooper's commands to drop the weapon. Rummage then shot himself one time in the head but survived. He was taken from the scene to the University of Louisville Hospital where he has been admitted since.
An investigation revealed that during a domestic dispute Mr. Rummage attempted to take the life of his wife but she managed to escape and flee to a neighbor's home.
Rummage was discharged from the U of L hospital today and was then served an arrest warrant by KSP Post 4 - Elizabethtown. He was immediately transported to the Kentucky State Reformatory at LaGrange, due to their ability to provide medical care to him.
The investigation is on-going.
