Injury Collision Involving a Horse Drawn Buggy

(Columbia, Ky.) -- Trooper Bryan Shepard is investigating a collision that occurred at 5:05 PM on S KY 501, 7 miles south of Liberty. William Salyers, 21 years of age, of Liberty, was operating a 1994 Chevrolet northbound on HWY 501. Mr. Salyers attempted to pass a horse drawn buggy and failed to negotiate the distance, therefore striking the buggy. The buggy was being operated by 41 year old Joseph Burkholder, of Liberty. Mr. Burkholder was not injured. Mr. Burkholder had 5 passengers, which were all from Liberty: Irene Burkholder, 16 years of age (transported to Ephraim McDowell), Jonas Burkholder, 10 years of age (transported to Ephraim McDowell), Alex Burkholder, 12 years of age (not injured), Mary Burkholder, 8 years of age (transported to Ephraim McDowell), and Alvin Burkholder, 5 years of age (not injured).
