Criminal Arrest in Greenup County
Date of News Release: 11/16/2010
(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a Wurtland, KY resident for Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree after he fired a weapon near a hunter. The incident occurred on 11-13-10 around 0545 hours on Skaggs Cemetery Road off of Turkey Lick Road in Greenup County. Paul E. Blair, age 38 of Wurtland, KY was arrested the following day by Trooper Jason Partin and lodged in the Greenup County jail on one count of Wanton Endangerment 1st (felony).
The investigation revealed a verbal confrontation occurred between two hunters over property rights. Blair and 48 year old Jeffrey Akers got into a verbal argument on Skaggs Cemetery Road over who actually owned the property and had hunting privileges. Akers pulled onto the property early Saturday morning to go hunting and encountered Blair who was already near the end of the road. After the confrontation, Akers had walked back to his vehicle and Blair fired his rifle near the vehicle causing debris to strike Akers' vehicle.
There were no injuries in the incident but warrants were obtained for Blair and he was arrested at his residence on Kentucky Avenue in Wurtland the next day (11-14-10).
The case remains under investigation by Trooper Jason Partin.
