Post 14 Kentucky's Summer Prevention Campaign

Date of News Release: 08/30/2010

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland is continuing their efforts to save lives by removing dangerous drivers from the roadways of the four county regions of Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence. Since June 1, 2010, troopers from across the state of Kentucky have participated in a summer campaign targeting impaired driving, seat belt violations, and other traffic related offenses by implementing traffic checkpoints at various approved locations in efforts to target violators of these offenses. This also includes saturation of patrols at high crash / DUI areas. These efforts will continue into the Labor Day holiday period and ends on September 6, 2010.

Captain Merrell Harrison, Commander of Post 14, is urging the citizens of Post 14 to report erratic driving behavior or suspected impaired drivers to the Kentucky State Police. Harrison notes that Driver Inattention is the number one cause of vehicle collisions in Kentucky and troopers will be heavily enforcing all traffic related offenses during this campaign period.

During the period of June 1, 2010 through August 22, 2010, troopers at Post 14 have issued or arrested the following activity:
