Shooting Investigation in Carter County
Date of News Release: 06/08/2010
(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is continuing their investigation into a shooting that occurred on Friday, June 4, 2010 around 9 pm on B&B Ridge, located off of Garvin Ridge in Carter County. Harvey Middleton Jr, age 40 of Olive Hill, KY was arrested by the Kentucky State Police on charges of Burglary 3rd, Criminal Mischief 1st, and Menacing and lodged in the Carter County Detention Center on Friday evening after he was involved in a confrontation with the victim: Amos James Reynolds, age 21, of Olive Hill, KY. Detectives are still trying to determine the events of that evening but have determined Middleton had burglarized a garage in the B&B ridge area and later had a confrontation with Reynolds (Reynolds was not the garage owner). Middleton shot Reynolds in the head with a small caliber handgun but Reynolds was able to flee the scene to a residence and summons help. The exact motive for the shooting is unclear.
Reynolds is still in ICU at St Mary's Medical Center. Middleton was located in the woods by Troopers shortly after the incident and taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with Assault 1st Degree on 6-5-2010 by Detective James Goble.
The investigation is continuing by Detective Jim Goble of the Kentucky State Police.
