Injury Collision on I-64 in Carter County

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a two car injury collision that occurred at the 152 mile marker on I-64 Westbound around 1030 this morning. Cynthia Wilcox, age 46 of Dyersburg, TN was operating a 2009 Nissan Pickup and had pulled onto the westbound emergency lane of I-64 in order to verify her travel directions. The second vehicle, a 1995 Peterbilt tractor, driven by Sammy Conn age 64 was traveling westbound and left the travel lanes and struck Wilcox’s vehicle. Wilcox was pulling an empty 1978 Dump Trailer.

Conn received minor injuries to his hand and was treated at the scene by Carter EMS. Wilcox had to be extricated by Olive Hill fire department and was transported to ST Claire Medical Center for minor injuries.

One lane of I-64 had to be closed for two hours due to the collision. Officer Robert Dean of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement is the lead investigator. He was assisted by Trooper Brad Wiley of the Kentucky State Police.
