One Killed and Three Injured in a Two Vehicle Collision on KY 9

(Ashland, Ky.) -- On January 13th 2009 at 1529 hours The Kentucky State Police in Ashland received a report of a two vehicle collision at the intersection of KY9 (AA Highway) and KY2 in Carter County. Tpr. J. Ryland U/734, Carter County EMS, and the Carter City and Grayson Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival Tpr. Ryland U/734 conducted an investigation of the collision. Unit 1, being operated by David Cantrell of Greenup, attempted to cross KY 9 and pulled into the path of oncoming traffic. Upon entering onto KY 9 Unit 1 was struck by Unit 2, which was being operated by Robert Ward of North Carolina. The operator of Unit 1, David Cantrell was pronounced deceased by the Carter County Coroner. Three passengers (Randy Newman, Don Newman & Donna Wilburn) in Unit 1 were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia to be treated for injuries sustained in the collision. At this time no additional updates are available for release.
