Two Killed in an ATV Collision on KY 1087 in Knott County
Date of News Release: 10/28/2010
(Hazard, Ky.) -- On 10/28/10 at approximately at 8:43 am, KSP Hazard received a 911 call of an ATV injury accident, in the Vest community of Knott County. Knott County Sheriffs Office, EMS and local rescue units responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Knott County Sheriffs units discovered the 2 victims lying over the embankment, where they had apparently expired from their injuries. KSP units also responded to the scene to assist. Preliminary investigation indicates that the 2 victims were traveling west bound on KY 1087, had lost control of the ATV, ran off the roadway, coming to rest approximately 35' over the embankment. The victims, jack Gayheart, age 41 of Vest and Susan W. Miller, age 43 also of Vest, were pronounced dead on the scene by the Knott County Coroners Office. The accident is still under investigation by Tpr. Jody Sims, U/625.
