Fatal Shooting in Mt. Carmel Community of Breathitt County

(Mt. Carmel, Ky.) -- On Saturday, September 11, 2010, at approximately 11:34 a.m. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of a possible shooting in the Mt. Carmel community in Breathitt County.

Jackson Police Department, Breathitt County Sheriff's Department, and Kentucky State Police arrived at the location. When approaching the scene a gunshot was heard and the alleged perpetrator was located on the front porch of his residence deceased from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation indicates that 47 year old Stanley Neace of Vancleve, Ky., went to two separate residences and shot a total of five people with a shotgun. All five victims and the alleged perpetrator were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breathitt County Coroner. The victims were Sandra J. Neace age 54 of Vancleve, Ky., Dennis J. Turner age 31 of Vancleve, Ky., Sandra R. Strong age 28 of Vancleve, Ky., Tammy R. Kilborn age 40 of Jackson, Ky., and Teresa G. Fugate age 30 of Jackson, Ky. All of the bodies have been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for an autopsy. The investigation is continuing by officers at Kentucky State Police Post 13 led by Det. Randy Combs.
