Two Killed & Two Injured in a Two Vehicle Collision on US 23

(Whitesburg, Ky.) -- On August 30, 2010 at approximately 8:50 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a 911 call of a two vehicle collision on U.S. 23 in the Jenkins community of Letcher County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by Michael Gullett 36 years of age from Pound, Virginia was traveling South in a Northbound lane and struck a vehicle traveling North operated by John Caudill age 30 of Whitesburg, Ky. Mr. Gullett and Mr. Caudill both were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner. Abigail Gullett, a 3 year old passenger in Michael Gullett's vehicle, was airlifted from the scene to a medical center in Johnson City. Mary Caudill, a passenger in John Caudill's vehicle, was also airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Seat belts and child restraints were in use at the time of the collision. The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Derek Hall.
