Officer involved shooting in Leslie County

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On Thursday July 8, 2010, at approximately 9:28 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 13, in Hazard, received a 911 call concerning a fight complaint in the Chappell community of Leslie County. The caller advised that two men, Clayton Nantz and his son, Monroe Nantz, were out in the yard of the residence of 141 Elk Road, arguing, and that both were possessing firearms. Troopers from Post 13, along with members of Leslie County Sheriffs Department responded to this location.
After officers arrived at the scene, Clayton Nantz approached Kentucky State Police officers and pointed a handgun at them. One of the officers fired on Nantz, wounding him. He was then placed under arrest and transported to Mary Breckinridge hospital where he was treated and released.
Upon release from the hospital, Clayton Nantz was transferred to the Leslie County Detention Center where he was charged with attempted assault 1st degree. This case remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
