Collision Involving A State Trooper

(Sassafras, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police collision reconstruction team is investigating an injury collision that occurred just before 11:00 a.m. on Highway 15 in the Sassafras community of Knott County. The two-car collision involved Trooper Timothy Mullins a 19-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police. Trooper Mullins was operating his 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police Cruiser, traveling northbound on Kentucky Highway 15 when a 2001 Ford F150 Pickup operated by Elvis Crum, 53, of Pinetop, KY crossed the centerline. The vehicles struck almost head on and the pickup operated by Mr. Crum then overturned and crossed a guardrail before coming to final rest. Trooper Mullins cruiser came to final rest in the median of Kentucky Highway 15.

Mr. Crum and Trooper Mullins were transported to Hazard ARH and have since been treated and released. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and the airbags of both vehicles were deployed. No alcohol or drug use is suspected. The collision remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
