Update to the Airplane Crash in Leslie County

Date of News Release: 04/29/2010

(Hazard, Ky) -- On April 27, 2010 at approximately 1:00 p.m. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call from the Federal Aviation Administration in reference to a possible airplane crash in or near the Leslie and Clay County area. After an extensive search by volunteers, local, county, and state agencies at approximately 7:40 p.m. the crash site and wreckage was located in a remote mountainous area in Leslie County. The victims Stephen James Reardon age 68 and Beverly Ann Reardon age 59 both of Woodbine, Maryland were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner.

The victims were removed from the scene by the Leslie County Coroner and assisted by the Rowan County Coroners Office. The crash site was turned over to the FAA and NTSB. The victims were transported to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy. The investigation is continuing by state, federal, and local agencies.

(Hazard, Ky) -- On 4-27-2010, at approximately 1:00 P.M., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call from FAA, in reference to a possible plane crash in the Leslie or Clay County area. After an extensive search by KSP and several assisting agencies and volunteers, the wreckage was located in a mountainous area, at approximately 07:40 P.M., in a location believed to be in Leslie County. No other information will be released at this time, pending further investigation by NTSB, FAA and other agencies.
