Date of News Release: 11/23/10

(London, Ky.) -- On Tuesday November 23, 2010 at 3:40 AM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, London received a request for an officer at the Baptist Regional Medical Center ER in Corbin, KY in reference to an Amber alert.

Hospital officials stated that a man and child were at the ER, but were acting suspicious, and a check of the Amber Alert Website indicated the child was the subject of an Amber Alert, issued at 6 PM on November 22, 2010, out of Pickens, South Carolina.

Upon arrival KSP Trooper Don Sivils determined that Donnie Lee Shelton, 46, of Pickens, South Carolina was wanted on the charges of Assault and Battery 1ST Degree and Non-Custodial Abduction of a Child.

Shelton was arrested, without incident, on the charge of being a Fugitive from another state and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

The child was treated, for a minor illness, and released from the BRMC ER into the custody of the Cabinet for Families and Children's Whitley County Office pending arrival of a child's mother.

Trooper Sivils was assisted by Trooper Fred Pennington, Trooper Mike King and the Corbin City Police.
