Fatal Traffic Crash in Whitley County

(London, Ky.) -- On November 15, 2010 at approximately 7:58 PM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, responded to a motor vehicle versus a train collision on KY 26, 2 miles south of Corbin, in the Woodbine community of Whitley County.

Upon arrival officers determined that a 1999, Chevrolet, pickup truck, operated by Terry Elliotte, 26, of Corbin, KY was traveling on KY 26 when as it made a right turn onto Perkins Street drove around the railroad crossing arms and was struck by a CSX train, operated by Darrell Faulkner, 60, of Knoxville, TN.

The pickup truck came to rest between the two sets of railroad tracks. The train stopped shortly after impact.

Terry Elliotte, who was ejected from the vehicle, was transported to the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, KY and subsequently transferred to U.K. Medical Center with multiple injuries.

Alcohol involvement, by Elliotte, is suspected.

A passenger in the Elliotte vehicle, identity release pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.

KSP Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Greg Hill is conducting the investigation and was assisted by KSP Trooper Scott Bunch, the Whitley County EMS and the Woodbine Fire and Rescue.
