One Killed in a Two Vehicle Collision on KY 490

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday January 14, 2010 at 9:45 AM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash with injury on KY 490 in northern Laurel County.
Upon arrival Trooper Richie Baxter determined that a white 1992, Oldsmobile, Eighty-Eight, passenger car, operated by Nathaniel D. Lucas, 23, of London, was southbound on KY 490 when it went out of control in a curve, crossed the centerline and struck a white 2002, GMC, pickup, operated by Johnny Lewis, 71, of Speedwell, TN. The possibility of black ice being a contributing factor is being investigated.
Mr. Lucas, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner.
Mr. Lewis, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries.
Drug and/or alcohol usage is NOT suspected.
Trooper Baxter is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by KSP TFC Barry Blair, KSP TFC Don Trosper, CVE Officer Charles Garland, the Crossroads Fire Department, the East Bernstadt Fire Department, the Laurel County Coroner's Office, the Laurel County Rescue Squad and the Laurel County EMS.
