Fatal Collision on US 119 in Pike County

(Pikeville, KY) - A vehicle operated by Earl Ratliff with passenger Peggy Ratliff was traveling south on U.S. 119 going toward Pikeville in the slow lane and at a slow rate of speed when they were struck in the rear by a vehicle operated by Edward Scott Potter. The vehicles made contact in the slow lane then slid into concrete divider where both vehicles came to final rest. Peggy Ratliff was pronounced deceased on scene by Pike County Deputy Mike Hall. Earl Ratliff had to extricated from the vehicle and was then transported to South Williamson ARH Hospital. Mr. Potter refused medical attention and remained on scene. Alcohol was not involved in the collision but the accident is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Brad Austin U/461 who was assisted on scene by KSP Trooper Jason McCellan U/673, KSP Sergeant Anthony Taulbee U/103, KSP Sergeant Randy Woods U/161, CVE Keith Justice U/4180, Big Creek Fire Department, Pike County Sheriff's Office, Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service and Pike County Deputy Coroner Mike Hall.
