Arrests Made in Moberly Shell Robbery

(Richmond, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond, has arrested two suspects in connection with the overnight robbery of the Moberly Shell Mart. On 02/12/2009 at 1:40 a.m., a male suspect entered the Moberly Shell wearing a stocking mask and gloves. The suspect implied that he was armed and then demanded money from the clerk. After obtaining cash from the clerk, the suspect ran from the store. The clerk followed him from the store, and was able to obtain the license plate number of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was later located on Irvine View in Richmond. Through investigation, it was determined that a local cab company had picked up a male and female in this area, and took them to the Red Roof Inn in Richmond. After checking with the staff of the motel, it was determined that the male and female had checked into a room. Detective Chris Short took these two persons into custody, and has charged them both with Robbery 1st and Possession of Drug paraphernalia. An undetermined amount of money was taken in the robbery, some of which was recovered by Detective Short. The suspects are lodged in the Madison County Detention Center. The investigation by Detective Chris Short continues. The two suspects were identified as Steven C. Chaney age 20 of Richmond, KY and Crystal D. Ashcraft age 29 of Richmond, KY.
