Fatal Collision on US Highway 42 East in Trimble County

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- On Thursday, September 3, 2009 at approximately 11:15 a.m. the Kentucky State Police responded to a two vehicle fatal collision approximately 4 miles east of Bedford on US Highway 42 East.
A Plymouth van driven by Alfred Jackson age 78 from Bedford was traveling west on US Highway 42, when the operator lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the eastbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a Peterbuilt semi tractor-trailer operated by Mickey G Riggs, age 47 from Madison Indiana. After the initial collision both vehicles left the roadway and overturned on the south shoulder of US highway 42.
Alfred Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Trimble County Coroner.
Mickey Riggs was transported to KDH Madison where he was treated for minor injuries.
The collision is currently under investigation by Trooper Corbin with the Kentucky State Police. Assisting at the scene was the Trimble County Sheriff's Department, Trimble County EMS, Bedford Fire Department, Trimble County Emergency Management, Trimble County State Highway Department, and other members of the Kentucky State Police.
