Death Investigation in Gallatin County

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) - On February 27th, 2009, at approximately 9:37 PM, Tpr. Brandon Maupin and Gallatin County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a Domestic Assault that had occurred on Campbell Road in Gallatin County. Upon arrival it was learned that Ralph Michael Utley had assaulted his live-in girlfriend and she had went to a neighbor's residence for assistance. Tpr. Maupin and the Gallatin County Deputies went to their residence to try and locate Mr. Utley. When they arrived they located the bodies of Utley and their 2½-year-old son, deceased from single gunshot wounds. The coroner was notified and KSP Detectives Kevin Johnson, Jason Brown, Det. Lt. Jeff Medley, Det. Sgt. Vic Hubbuch, Sgt. Ezra Stout, Sgt. Mike Williams, Gallatin County Sheriff Nelson Brown, and the Gallatin County Emergency Services also arrived. The investigation is ongoing and is in it's preliminary stages. Interviews are being conducted and all leads will be followed. The autopsies were performed earlier today and toxicology results are pending lab examination. This is a tragedy for the family and the community and we ask that you respect the privacy of the family and let them properly mourn the loss of their loved ones.
