Minor Injury Crash in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Brent Pursell, age 27 of Belleview, FL, was operating a 1989 Freightliner flatbed, tractor-trailer eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway. He was hauling heavy equipment. Paul Kirtley, age 38 of Central City, KY, was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway approaching Mr. Pursell's vehicle. Mr. Pursell had slowed due to the fact that he had missed his exit. Mr. Kirtley saw Mr. Pursell in front of him, but did not realize he was traveling at a slower speed. Mr. Kirtley advised he glanced down for a moment and when he looked back, his vehicle collided with Mr. Pursell's. The Chevrolet sustained severe damage. The tractor-trailer sustained moderate damage to the rear, impact guard. Mr. Kirtley sustained minor injuries, but refused medical treatment and transport. Mr. Pursell was not injured. Both men were wearing seat belts. KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Chris Green investigated the crash.
