Non-Injury Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer in Caldwell County

Date of News Release: 12/10/2009

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Mr. Jesse J. Ervin was operating a 2000 Freightliner, owned by "Matt-Marc Lines Corporation" of Lauderhill, Florida. He was exiting the Kentucky Farm Bureau parking lot onto East Green Street in Princeton, when his trailer came in contact with a utility line. Mr. Ervin proceeded west on Green Street toward North Jefferson Street, unaware that the line was entangled with his trailer. The line became stretched, causing enough tension on the utility pole it was attached with to cause the pole to break off at its base. The pole fell in the direction of Mr. Ervin's vehicle, striking it on the right side of the sleeper compartment. This caused only minor damage to the vehicle, but did delay traffic for approximately 1-2 hours (causing it to be re-routed) while utility crews removed the debris from the vehicle and repaired the damage lines and pole.

Mr. Ervin was uninjured in the crash and was wearing a Lap / Shoulder restraint. Mr. Ervin was cited for a Class B Misdemeanor due to a violation of the Kentucky Weight Distance Tax Law / Failure to add a taxable vehicle to the inventory list. He was also issued a warning citation for Violation of Part 395 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation / Failure to maintain a current entry on his record of duty status (log book).
