Stats From Post 2 For November 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of November 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 51 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,582 Citations
  • Issued 747 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 109 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 10 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 556 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 127 Crashes
  • Assisted 179 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 932 Calls For Service
  • Opened 60 Criminal Cases
  • Made 138 Criminal Arrests

**There were two (2) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of two (2) lives reported in the Post 2 District in November 2009. One fatal crash occurred in Webster County and the victim was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was a suspected factor in that crash. The other fatal crash occurred in Hopkins County and restraint usage was not applicable.

Through November 30, 2009, thirty-five (35) people have been killed in thirty-three (33) crashes in the Post 2 District. Ten (10) victims were not wearing seat belts, thirteen (13) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, four (4) victims were not wearing a helmet, one (1) victim was wearing a helmet, five (5) victims were pedestrians, and one (1) was not applicable. Eight (8) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through November 30, 2008, thirty-two (32) people had been killed in twenty-seven (27) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
