Minor Injury Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer in Caldwell County
Date of News Release: 11/12/2009
(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Armond E. Lawrence, age 71 of Hopkinsville, KY, was operating a 1991 GMC tractor-trailer southbound on KY 139. The tractor-trailer was loaded with grain (soybeans). Mr. Lawrence stated that he met another vehicle traveling northbound and was blinded by the glare of the lights from the on-coming vehicle. He veered to the right and dropped off the shoulder of the roadway. The tractor-trailer's momentum pulled him into a ditch line where it traveled approximately 450 feet. Mr. Lawrence attempted to regain control, but overcorrected causing the tractor-trailer to roll-over onto its right side spilling its load onto the roadway. The tractor-trailer came to rest blocking both the northbound and southbound lanes. The roadway was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours. Mr. Lawrence was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment/transport. KSP CVE Lt. Kevin Rogers investigated the crash. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Department, Caldwell County Fire & Rescue, Caldwell County EMS and the Kentucky Highway Department assisted at the scene.
