Stats From Post 2 For October 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of October 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 31 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,279 Citations
- Issued 507 Speeding Citations
- Issued 116 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 16 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 519 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 119 Crashes
- Assisted 174 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,116 Calls For Service
- Opened 61 Criminal Cases
- Made 123 Criminal Arrests
**There was one (1) fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one (1) life reported in the Post 2 District in October 2009. The fatal crash occurred in Muhlenberg County and the victim was not wearing a seat belt.
Through October 31, 2009, thirty (30) people have been killed in twenty-eight (28) crashes in the Post 2 District. Nine (9) victims were not wearing seat belts, eleven (11) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, four (4) victims were not wearing a helmet and five (5) victims were pedestrians. Seven (7) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through October 31, 2008, thirty-two (32) people had been killed in twenty-seven (27) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
