Stats From Post 2 For September 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of September 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 41 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,644 Citations
- Issued 776 Speeding Citations
- Issued 170 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 19 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 630 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 106 Crashes
- Assisted 187 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,162 Calls For Service
- Opened 61 Criminal Cases
- Made 132 Criminal Arrests
**There were six (6) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of six (6) lives reported in the Post 2 District in September 2009. Christian and Muhlenberg County each had two fatal crashes reported. Hopkins and Todd County each had one fatal crash reported. One (1) victim was not wearing a seat belt, one (1) victim was wearing a seat belt, two (2) victims were not wearing helmets and two (2) victims were pedestrians. Alcohol was a suspected factor in the fatal crash in Hopkins County.
Through September 30, 2009, twenty-nine (29) people have been killed in twenty-seven (27) crashes in the Post 2 District. Eight (8) victims were not wearing seat belts, eleven (11) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, four (4) victims were not wearing a helmet and five (5) victims were pedestrians. Seven (7) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through September 30, 2008, thirty-one (31) people had been killed in twenty-six (26) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
