Update to the Hopkins County Death Investigation

Nortonville, KY (Hopkins County) -- An autopsy was performed this morning (09/09/2009) at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville. The victim, Johnny D. Driver, age 67 of Albertville, AL., died as a result of natural causes, a heart attack.

Mr. Driver was operating a 1998 Kenworth tractor-trailer southbound on the Edward T. Breathitt (Pennyrile) Parkway when he suffered a heart attack. The tractor-trailer was a vehicle hauler that was not loaded. It exited the right shoulder of the roadway and traveled into a ditch. It continued on for approximately 200 feet through the ditch before overturning on its driver's side. The tractor-trailer came to rest on its driver's side in the ditch. Dennis Mayfield, the Hopkins County Coroner, pronounced Mr. Driver dead at the scene.

Trooper First Class John Komar is the investigating officer. The following agencies assisted at the scene: KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Nortonville Southside EMS, Hopkinsville/Christian County EMS/Fire, Crofton Volunteer Fire Department, South Hopkins Volunteer Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, the Hopkins County Coroner's Office, and the State Highway Department.

Nortonville, KY (Hopkins County) -- The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a death that occurred on the Edward T. Breathitt (Pennyrile) Parkway.

On September 9, 2009, at approximately 8:24 a.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville was notified of a single, vehicle crash. The location of the crash was between the 28 and 29 mile-marker, southbound on the Edward T. Breathitt (Pennyrile) Parkway approximately 4 miles south of Nortonville.

Trooper John Komar and other first responders arrived on the scene. The victim was operating a tractor-trailer southbound when the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and traveled into a ditch. It overturned on its driver's side and came to rest in the ditch off the roadway. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield.

At the present time, it is not known if the victim died as a result of natural causes or injuries sustained in the crash. An autopsy will be performed. The name of the victim will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.

The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police.
