Stats From Post 2 For August 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of August 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 42 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,852 Citations
  • Issued 710 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 189 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 19 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 568 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 85 Crashes
  • Assisted 179 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,162 Calls For Service
  • Opened 77 Criminal Cases
  • Made 287 Criminal Arrests

*There were two (2) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of two (2) lives reported in the Post 2 District in August 2009. Fatal crashes were reported in Muhlenberg and Webster Counties. One (1) victim was not wearing a helmet and one (1) victim was wearing a seat belt.

Through August 31, 2009, twenty-three (23) people have been killed in twenty-one (21) crashes in the Post 2 District. Seven (7) victims were not wearing seat belts, ten (10) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, two (2) victims were not wearing a helmet and three (3) victims were pedestrians. Six (6) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through August 31, 2008, twenty-six (26) people had been killed in twenty-three (23) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
