Stats From Post 2 For July 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of July 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 44 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,210 Citations
  • Issued 940 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 338 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 31 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 717 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 100 Crashes
  • Assisted 223 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,233 Calls For Service
  • Opened 89 Criminal Cases
  • Made 179 Criminal Arrests

*There were four (4) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of four (4) lives reported in the Post 2 District in July 2009. Two (2) fatal crashes were reported in Christian County and two (2) fatal crashes were reported in Hopkins County. Two (2) victims were not wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was wearing a seat belt and one (1) victim was a pedestrian. Alcohol was a suspected factor in two of the fatal crashes.

Through July 31, 2009, twenty-one (21) people have been killed in nineteen (19) crashes in the Post 2 District. Seven (7) victims were not wearing seat belts, nine (9) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet and three (3) victims were pedestrians. Six (6) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through July 31, 2008, twenty-five (25) people had been killed in twenty-two (22) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
