Felony Arrest in Hopkins County

(Hopkins County) -- On Friday, July 10, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville received a report of a vehicle that had exited the roadway on US 41A just outside of Nebo. Trooper Derek Smith responded to the scene. Through his investigation, it was determined that Kristina Hammons was under the influence of prescription medication. While placing Ms. Hammons under arrest, she resisted and struck Trooper Smith with her arm. Trooper Smith was able to subdue Ms. Hammons and place her in his cruiser. She was charged with the offenses of DUI 1st Offense, Assault 3rd Degree (Police Officer), Resisting Arrest, No Operator's License & No Insurance 1st Offense and lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
