Stats From Post 2 For June 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of June 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 39 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,245 Citations
- Issued 505 Speeding Citations
- Issued 126 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 18 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 484 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 114 Crashes
- Assisted 206 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,081 Calls For Service
- Opened 65 Criminal Cases
- Made 110 Criminal Arrests
**There was one (1) fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one (1) life reported in the Post 2 District in June 2009. A single fatality crash occurred in Christian County. The victim was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash.
Through June 30, 2009, seventeen (17) people have been killed in fifteen (15) crashes in the Post 2 District. Five (5) victims were not wearing seat belts, eight (8) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet and two (2) victims were pedestrians. Four (4) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through June 30, 2008, twenty (20) people had been killed in seventeen (17) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
