Stats From Post 2 For April 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of April 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 53 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,733 Citations
  • Issued 687 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 163 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 20 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 583 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 102 Crashes
  • Assisted 169 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,138 Calls For Service
  • Opened 79 Criminal Cases
  • Made 157 Criminal Arrests

**There were a total of three (3) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three (3) lives reported in the Post 2 District in April 2009. Single fatality crashes occurred in Christian, Hopkins and Todd Counties. Two (2) victims were wearing seat belts and one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet. One crash involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through April 30, 2009, fourteen (14) people have been killed in twelve (12) crashes in the Post 2 District. Three (3) victims were not wearing seat belts, seven (7) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet and two (2) victims were pedestrians. Three (3) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through April 30, 2008, twelve (12) people had been killed in twelve (12) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
