Stats From Post 2 For March 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of March 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 41 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,945 Citations
- Issued 704 Speeding Citations
- Issued 174 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 13 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 794 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 101 Crashes
- Assisted 209 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,235 Calls For Service
- Opened 89 Criminal Cases
- Made 198 Criminal Arrests
**There were a total of three (3) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of four (4) lives reported in the Post 2 District in March 2009. A double-fatality crash occurred in Christian County. Single fatality crashes occurred in Hopkins and Todd Counties. All four victims were wearing seat belts.
Through March 31, 2009, eleven (11) people have been killed in nine (9) crashes in the Post 2 District. Three (3) victims were not wearing seat belts, five (5) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat and two (2) victims were pedestrians. Two (2) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through March 31, 2008, eight (8) people had been killed in eight (8) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
