Stats From Post 2 For February 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of February 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 38 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,468 Citations
- Issued 525 Speeding Citations
- Issued 139 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 6 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 599 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 81 Crashes
- Assisted 190 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,044 Calls For Service
- Opened 58 Criminal Cases
- Made 129 Criminal Arrests
**There There were a total of two (2) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three (3) lives reported in the Post 2 District in February 2009. Both fatal crashes occurred in Todd County. Two victims were not wearing a seat belt and one victim was using a booster seat.
Through February 28, 2009, six (6) people have been killed in five (5) crashes in the Post 2 District. Three (3) victims were not wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was wearing a seat belt, one (1) victim was using a booster seat and one (1) victim was a pedestrian. Two (2) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through February 29, 2008, four (4) people had been killed in four (4) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
