Cold Case Murder Arrest

An image of John Thomas Tapp, click here to enlarge in a new window(Madisonville, KY) - (Hopkins County) - On Tuesday, February 17, 2009, Kentucky State Police Detective Steve Silfies presented the 1995 murder investigation of Gary W. Clark to the Hopkins County Grand Jury. Later that same day, the Grand Jury returned an indictment for murder against John Thomas Tapp, age 39 of Madisonville, KY, in reference to that case.

On Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at approximately 1:47 p.m. CST, officers from the Kentucky State Police arrested Mr. Tapp at the Integra Bank located on South Main Street in the limits of Madisonville. Mr. Tapp was arrested without incident and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail. He is charged with murder, a capital offense. At the present time, no bond has been set.

The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police. The Hopkins County Sheriff's Department and the Madisonville Police Department assisted.

Clark age 42 of Madisonville, KY was discovered in a wooded lot off of Curtis Mine Road approximately 3 miles south of Madisonville. The cause of death was a single gunshot wound.

At this time, Kentucky State Police investigators are following several leads that have recently developed. The Kentucky State Police are requesting the public's assistance with the investigation.
